Family Finding is a public health project.

Seeing Beyond the Search

Family Seeing is a public health project. We see the family in front of us, instead of searching for one we like better. The time machine of families’ experiences creates the opportunity to heal: past, present, and future. The parents, children, relatives, and community work is healing what hurts and building a good life. The division of labor is never possible when parents, children, relatives, and the community are not at the center of the process from beginning to end.

Health is health. The health of the brain, body, family, child, community, spirit, and land are inseparable. Child safety is one health measure, which cannot be responded to alone if good lifelong health is the goal. This creates space later to look at issues of health in our democracy.

“Our purpose in Family Finding is to restore the opportunity to be unconditionally loved, to be accepted, and to be safe in a community and family.”

- Kevin Campbell

Family Finding acknowledges the critical importance of parents, relatives, and other caring people within the context of culture; agents of change in children’s lives. Government-funded services and programs must support this truth rather than replacing it. Parenting is health: an investment in the well-being of parents, families, and communities is the ultimate investment in lifelong health for all people. Investing in families, not systems alone, is the best use of resources.
